How are cookies tracked for the sale?
When you use one of your affiliate links to share the course with your readers and they click it, this places a cookie in their browser. When a customer clicks this link and lands on your website, your affiliate ID (which you will see in all of your links) is stored in a cookie, within the customer’s browser. If the customer makes a purchase, the affiliate that the customer is tracking is awarded commission on the sale. This cookie tracks the referral as long as it remains on their computer. If the referral returns to a sign up web page or online store and takes action later, the referral will be tracked back to the affiliate whose link they clicked. The system also tracks by IP address, if a tracking cookie is not found.
Once a customer has opted in to our system, either through purchasing a product or enrolling in one of our campaigns, that cookie becomes permanent and can not be cleared, because it is tied to their customer profile.
More about our cookies:
Our affiliate program utilizes cookies to track sales generated by your links. Cookies are used in three stages of tracking:
- When your ad is clicked.
- When a referred customer opts in to one of our campaigns.
- When a sale is placed by a referred customer.
The function of these cookies is solely for the purpose of paying our affiliates commissions when a consumer makes a purchase of Elite Blog Academy®.
You may notice products other than Elite Blog Academy® in your affiliate ledger. This is because our company sells a variety of products, and they are all integrated into the same system. Because we use a first-link clicked system, it is possible that a customer you referred through Elite Blog Academy® will end up purchasing one of our other products, but those products are non-commissionable, as our affiliate program is for Elite Blog Academy® only.
What if a customer clicks on 2 different affiliate links?
Elite Blog Academy uses a “first link clicked” tracking system. The reason we use this system is so that you can feel confident about referring someone to opt in to our free resources, knowing that your link will always be tracked. This means that the first affiliate link that the customer clicks will store the affiliate’s ID in a cookie and it cannot be overridden from the second link unless the cookie expires, or the customer clears their browser cookies and then clicks on the second link. And again, if a customer actually opted-in to our system from that first link, the initial referring partner is permanently tied to that customer and the cookie can not be cleared..
The only ways you would NOT earn commission on a sale is:
- The purchaser went directly to the site to purchase the course and NEVER clicked on your affiliate links. In this case there is no way to connect your affiliate account to the purchaser.
- The purchaser clicked on someone else’s affiliate link before clicking on yours. Remember, we use a “first link clicked” system and not a “last link clicked” system, which means that the first person to refer the EBA course to a potential prospect will get credit for the sale. Please note that we will not override or change referral links.
- They don’t save cookies in their browser (though this is rare–most people’s browsers are set up to accept cookies).
- This is true of our High Converting Events Campaigns, too. When they sign up using your special link, a cookie goes into their browser just like any affiliate link. If they go on to purchase later and their cookie still exists in their browser, you will earn the commission. However, please keep in mind that just clicking the campaign link does not place a cookie in their browser — they MUST actually sign up with their email address for the cookie to be placed. Sales are made based on the first cookie clicked. In other words, if someone clicks on your affiliate link tomorrow and doesn’t purchased until the end of the week you will still get the sale.
What are “pending commissions” in my sales log?
An affiliate’s referral does not get added to your commission summary report until they submit a web form or make a purchase. In your commissions summary report you will see the number of clicks created by your link, followed by the number of opt-in’s and lastly the number of actual orders. Once the purchase is made and the customer pays in full, the referral commission is calculated and posted to your referral partner ledger. This is when you will be able to see your sales and commissions. Pending Commissions typically refer to cases where the EBA course is added to a purchasers cart but they have not completed the checkout process. This number does not represent actual earnings. Unfortunately, there is no way to remove these numbers, and it will likely grow as you continue to promote EBA course launches. We recommend just ignoring it!
